Amelia loves the “weird news” button on the left hand side of the screen on nj.com

I really find the best stories there- and in fact have decided to archive my favorite per month for potential inclusion in the novel format; in between each chapter there will be a “weird nj actual news story.” Amelia thinks of a book she helped publish in 1993; Jim Stone’s  marvelous art book Stranger than Fiction in which he juxtoposes real news stories with portraits. http://jimstone.com/

BELMAR — Beachgoers can build sand castles along one New Jersey beach without fear of prosecution.

Belmar has overturned an ordinance that required people to get written permission from the town council if they planned to construct something out of the sand.

The ordinance was on the books even though the Monmouth County town hosted a sand castle competition for 24 years.

The new ordinance just requires builders to level the sand before leaving the area.
